# Post to Mastodon when you go live on Twitch

Bloopbot posts to your Mastodon account when your Twitch stream starts, with your title, category, a picture of the stream and your channel link, once per stream. Works with most public Mastodon servers.

## What your followers see

The starter text is:

with a picture of your stream, and Mastodon adds its own preview card for the link. Change the text to anything you like; **Insert…** adds values such as your title, category and channel link.

- **Your server's limit.** Most allow 500 characters, some more; once you are connected, the step's preview uses your server's own number. Every link counts as 23 characters however long it is.
- **One picture**, converted to a JPEG no larger than 1920 by 1080 pixels. If your server doesn't take pictures, set **Picture** to **None**.
- **Public posts.** Every post is public, and Bloopbot posts without editing or deleting: do that on Mastodon.

## The flow

The **Socials** pack's **Post to Mastodon when you go live** is four steps you can open and change:

1. **Stream starts or ends**, set to **Live**.
2. **Variable is**: this stream hasn't been announced on Mastodon yet.
3. **Post to Mastodon**, with the text, the picture and a live preview of the post.
4. **Set a variable**: remember this stream once your server confirms the post.

So a short disconnect doesn't post twice, and your next stream gets a fresh post. A **Post to Mastodon** step works after any trigger, so a milestone or a command can post too.

## Set it up

1. Open **Connections**, choose **Mastodon**, type your server, for example `mastodon.social`, and press **Connect Mastodon**. Approve **Bloopbot** on your server.
2. On **Flows**, press **Add** and add the **Socials** pack. Its flows install paused.
3. Open **Post to Mastodon when you go live** and press **Send test post** to see the real post on your profile.
4. Switch the flow on.

Mastodon access doesn't run out. If you take it away on Mastodon, the card on **Connections** shows **Needs reconnecting**.
